The Wampanoag Tribe holds an important place in American history, one rarely recognized or fully understood by the public. Since the time the first European settlers arrived in 1620 there have been few opportunities for the Wampanoag to clearly tell the story from their own perspective. Oral tradition plays an important role in Native American community yet is rarely shared with the American public. The Aquinnah Cultural Center will provide meaningful interaction with knowledgeable interpreters of Wampanoag culture using the museum collections as learning links to the Aquinnah people and our living culture.
