MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The Membership Committee consists of five Tribal Members who serve a term of two years. The Chairman shall be appointed by Tribal Council.
As of August 2011, there are 1,156 enrolled Tribal Members.
MEMBERSHIP ENROLLMENT
Enrollment in the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) is based upon our Roll of 1870.
Any person who can document their direct lineal descent from a specifically identified Gay Head Wampanoag Indian on the 1870 Census Roll of the Tribe, submitted to the Commonwealth in 1871, shall be eligible for Membership.
Requests for a Membership enrollment packet must be submitted in writing and accompanied by a $10.00 application fee; a non-refundable money order payable to the order of “The Wampanoag Tribe.”
No person shall qualify for membership if they are a member of any other Tribe, band or Indian community unless they relinquish their membership in such.
It is the responsibility of the parents to enroll their children within six months of birth in order to receive any services of benefits from the Tribe.
In all enrollment proceedings, the burden of proof is on the applicant.
