In the year 2000 the Natural Resource Department is participating in a pilot program to assess the current state of air quality by measuring the atmospheric deposition of mercury and various pollutants. This study is important to determine the potential threat of these pollutants to the Tribal community through the consumption of locally harvested food. Our Tribal members are dependent on the resources of the land, air, fresh and salt water to harvest fish, animals & plants for consumption.

To assess current conditions of these pollutants the Tribe will purchase a PM2.5 (IMPROVE) speciation monitor and collect air quality, atmosphere deposition of mercury and other atmospheric data to assess the effects of air pollution on and near the Tribal reservation. The potential health effects from the consumption of culturally significant fish, plant and/or animal life will be determined based upon collected data.

This web site will be used to display & disseminate information found throughout the study. Please check back to see updates on this program and expected timelines for data availability.
