The Cultural Resource Commission (CRC) was formed in October 1999 to provide advice to the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer and the Tribal Repatriation Officer in difficult decision-making situations regarding cultural resource protection (i.e. unmarked graves protection, archaeological surveys, repatriation and re-internment of human remains and associated funerary objects.)

The Commission is composed of the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer, the Tribal Repatriation Officer, the Chief of the Aquinnah Wampanoag, and one representative each from the Massachusetts Commission on Indian Affairs and the Aquinnah Cultural Center.

A Cultural Resource Protection Ordinance is currently being drafted that will define the roles and responsibilities of the Program, its staff and the CRC.
