The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) has identified the importance of promoting education as a life-long process which requires the broad participation of all age groups of the tribal membership. The purpose of the Education Department is to serve tribal membership's life-long educational needs.

Scholarship Section
WTGHA HIGHER EDUCATION GRANT INFORMATION:
The Higher Education Grant Scholarship award was founded with the goal of providing Tribal Members with an equal opportunity to pursue a college education. It is offered to offset the costs of education that has not been covered by financial aid. This scholarship is available to both undergrad and graduate students and will award up to $4,500.00 of financial aid. The annual deadline for the Higher Education Scholarship is July 15th. All Aquinnah Wampanoag Members enrolled in an accredited higher education program are eligible to apply.

The Indian Health Service (IHS) offers three scholarships for American Indian and Alaska Native students in order to educate and train health professionals to staff Indian health programs. Cobell Scholarship

Cobell Scholarships offers are merit-based following a lengthy application and referral process. Cobell Scholarship awards are disbursed according to US Federal Student Aid standards and the policies of the individual colleges and universities. The Cobell Scholarship is annual, non-renewable, and available to any post-secondary (after high school) student who is: an enrolled member of a US Federally-recognized Tribe, enrolled in or plans to enroll in full-time study and is degree-seeking while attending any nationally, regionally and industry accredited non-profit, public and private, institution.
DAR Schoarship for American Indians

This scholarship is awarded once a year to a Native American college and technical student of any age, any tribe and in any state who has financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.25 based on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent GPA on the scaled used by the applicable educational institution.
Scholarships for BIPOC students attending Trade schools
This resource raises awareness about racial disparities in postsecondary graduation rates and poverty and discusses some of the benefits of vocational training and Trade schools. You will find scholarships specifically for BIPOC students

Youth Group Information!
AQUINNAH WAMPANOAG TRIBAL YOUTH COUNCIL
The Education Department is reestablishing our Youth Group. The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribal Youth Group is for Tribal Youth ages 14-24 years. The Youth Group will be a group of young Wampanoags who meet on a regular basis to share ideas, address common concerns, contribute to the community, and have fun together. Youth Group members will decide the focus, but activities may include:
· Learning about Wampanoag culture, customs, and language
· Meeting other young tribal members
· Learning a skill or using your skills to help the community
· Receiving support with college plans
· Traveling throughout Indian Country and meeting you

The Education Department maintains a collection of scholarships and internship opportunities. These opportunities are available to both current students and those who would like to pursue an education. The department will assist you with any questions and or information you may need concerning your pursuit of an education.
The Education Department offers assistance with career counseling, writing recommendation letters as well as building resumes upon the request from Tribal Members.
The Education Department also offers support for families through parent advocacy for school conferences, special education meetings and the other needs as they arise.
